Walking

Walking prayer, or walking meditation, is one way I am able to still the “noise” in my head long enough to begin to pay attention to the Spirit. When I walk, I notice the signs of life around me— birds, traffic, voices, machines, the wind through the trees. I also notice the signs of life in me— my breath, my growling stomach if I’m hungry, the way the cool air feels on my skin. I notice where in my body I feel the most freedom and where I feel the most constriction. After some time, I might start to reflect on my life. Where in my life do I feel the most freedom? Where do I feel the most constrained? What am I most grateful for? What do I long for today? The reflection becomes my prayer.
